Heat Treatment

Members of the Wolfson Heat Treatment Centre, Wednesfield Shotblasting Ltd have been major players in the heat treatment industry for over 40 years.

Wednesfield Shotblasting Limited carries out heat treatment in an electric furnace which has the ability to soak material at temperatures up to 750c. The electric elements situated on top, bottom, left and right hand walls, and front and back walls ensure the materials are uniformly heated and there is no risk of flame impingement. The furnace is operated most nights throughout the night.

Temperature is recorded onto a Eurotherm 5100V Chessell DAQ 100mm chart recorder using K type thermocouples attached directly onto work being Stress Relieved, thus measuring metal temperature and NOT zone / air temperature. Each load is identified with an individual security batch code.

All monitoring equipment is calibrated on a six monthly basis (April and October) using equipment traceable to national standards (NPL). Copies of certificates are available upon written request.

Which Heat Treatment do you need?

Some customers find it difficult to identify exactly which form of heat treatment they require, the following will hopefully clarify which heat treatment you require.

Stress relieving, normalising and annealing all prepare metals and alloys for further processing or for the intended service conditions. They control the ability of materials to, be machined with ease, perform without distortion in service, be formed without cracking or splitting, be subsequently hardened or carburised with minimal distortion, or to resist corrosive environments.

Please note there is always a risk of distortion/sagging when high-temperature treatments are applied to vulnerable thin-wall vessels or large, heavy components. Whilst we use supports to combat this problem, we cannot guarantee that there will be no distortion.
